Stephen Ibaraki, DFNPA, CNP, FCIPS, ISP, ITCP/IP3P, MVP joined the board of the NPA in 2004 and was the inaugural recipient of the NPA Career Achievement Award for Professionalism, the global industry’s highest honour in 2002. He was awarded as a founding distinguished fellow in 2005. In 2005, Stephen served a 4-year term as Vice-Chair and in 2005 to January 2010 served as publisher and managing editor of the NPA Journal. Stephen continues to serve as a director on the editorial board of the NPA Journal, director on the certification council, director on the college of distinguished fellows, and board director of the NPA. His interviews with industry leaders appear on the NPA web site and in every issue of the NPA Journal.
Working with technology since 1965, he is a Hall of Fame Inductee and multiple Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. As the most awarded industry analyst, a few of his more than 100 international recognitions, roles, awards for a lifetime of outstanding contributions are profiled by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), where he is a founding fellow. (CIPS is the official representative for Canada to the UN-Founded International Federation for Information Processing [IFIP], the UNESCO consultative body for IT.) Upon receiving his lifetime Advanced Technology Award in 2008, Premier Gordon Campbell thanked him for his "commitment to industry excellence."
As a widely recognized IT and business professional, Stephen was named Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for “technology’s best and brightest” by Microsoft in Windows Live Research and Development in 2009 (the only one globally) and he has received the MVP award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 including an inaugural top 5 spotlight at the global MVP summit in 2007 and an inaugural two of the top 7 blogger positions (the only one worldwide) for 2 different blog platforms at the global MVP summit in 2008. Due to his unique MVP standing, in 2008-2009, Stephen was invited to take on the Chief Editor role for Microsoft YouShapeIT/Technet where he featured interviews with MVPs for their roles as top-ranking authorities. Moreover, due to his reputation, he is a featured keynote speaker in the EU, U.S., and Canada.
He is also a multiple award-winning past senior educator (business and technology), academic program head (business, technology, research); multi-company founder/entrepreneur; and official 3rd-party senior industry advisor/analyst to Microsoft Canada and Microsoft Redmond.
His writing endeavours have led him to become: a top-ranked blogger as co-host of the IT Manager Connection Blog, the largest online IT management community; chief editor or publisher of IT journals including Microsoft's YouShapeIT; publisher and managing editor of the Network Professional Association's (NPA) Journal, where he also serves as NPA past vice-chair and current board director, certification board director, editorial board director, and college of distinguished fellows director. Writing since the 1970s’, his weekly podcasts interviews with top scientists, futurists, business leaders, technologists have an audience reach of more than 60 million in over 100 countries.
